The MAX551/MAX552 are 12-bit, current-output, 4-quadrant multiplying digital-to-analog converters (DACs) that operate from a single supply (+5V for MAX551, +3V for MAX552). They provide unipolar or bipolar outputs and feature a SPI/QSPI/MICROWIRE-compatible 3-wire serial interface. The devices include an internal power-on-reset circuit that clears all DAC registers on power-up, setting the output to 0V. They have double-buffered interface logic with a 12-bit input register and a 12-bit DAC register. Available in 8-pin DIP or space-saving 10-pin µMAX packages, the µMAX version includes an asynchronous clear (CLR) input. Key advantages include low power dissipation, board space savings, and compatibility with optocoupler interfaces due to Schmitt-trigger digital inputs.
