The SN54HC4040 and SN74HC4040 are 12-stage asynchronous binary counters with outputs of all stages available externally. They operate over a wide voltage range of 2V to 6V, feature low power consumption (max 80µA), and typical propagation delay of 12ns. The clear (CLR) input asynchronously resets all outputs low, while counting advances on high-to-low clock transitions. Outputs drive up to 10 LSTTL loads with ±4mA at 5V. Applications include time-delay circuits, counter controls, and frequency-dividing circuits.
