The TP3420A is built on National's advanced 1.0 micron double-metal CMOS process and requires a single +5V supply. It provides all functions specified in CCITT I.430 (1991) and ANSI T1.605 (1991) for ISDN basic access at the S and T interfaces. The device can be configured to operate in TE (Terminal Equipment), NT-1, NT-2 (Network Termination), PABX line-card or trunk-card modes. It supports full-duplex transmission at 192 kb/s on twisted wire pairs using inverted AMI line coding, providing 2B+D channels (2x64kb/s B channels and 1x16kb/s D channel) and 800b/s S1, S2, Q multiframe channels for Layer 1 maintenance. The TP3420A supports all I.430 wiring configurations including passive bus (up to 8 TE's within 200 meters) and point-to-point/point-to-star connections up to 1500 meters. Adaptive receive signal processing ensures low bit error rates on standard cable pairs with noise sources specified in I.430.
