The MICROWIRE Interface Device (MID) enables general microprocessors (such as National Series 32000, Intel 80C188/80C86/80286, Motorola 6800/68000) to communicate with up to eight peripheral devices via serial MICROWIRE interface. It performs data serialization and transfer protocols, making peripherals appear as memory-mapped locations. Features include multiplexed/non-multiplexed microprocessor bus compatibility, programmable MICROWIRE clock (up to 5 MHz), direct compatibility with 8- and 16-bit MICROWIRE peripherals, commercial temperature range (0°C to +70°C), 8 chip select outputs, and operation as MICROWIRE bus master or slave. It supports interfaces to serial EEPROMs and standard MICROWIRE peripherals like ADCs, LCD drivers, and clock generators. The device is CMOS, low-power, and comes in a 28-pin PLCC package.
