They feature low ESR at high frequencies and are available in both surface-mount and leaded configurations. Special handling is required for SMT assembly, including controlled temperature gradients (≤4°C/sec) and preheat within 50°C of peak soldering temperature. Larger chip sizes (1210 and above) require reflow soldering only. Protective coatings may be needed to prevent external arcing.
