ADM232AARN [Analog Devices]

The ADM222/ADM232A/ADM242 are high-speed RS-232 drivers/receivers requiring a single 5 V supply. They integrate step-up voltage converters and level-shifting transmitters/receivers, generating ±10 V from 5 V using an internal charge pump with four external 0.1 µF capacitors. Fabricated on BiCMOS technology, they achieve 200 kB/s transmission while minimizing quiescent power to under 5 mA. Each device provides two RS-232 drivers and two receivers. The ADM222 features shutdown (SHDN) reducing current to 0.1 µA, disabling all functions. The ADM242 combines shutdown (SHDN) and enable (EN) functions: shutdown reduces current to 0.1 mA (drivers disabled, receivers active), while EN disables receiver outputs for bus sharing.
