The MAX1480A/B/C and MAX1490A/B are complete, electrically isolated RS-485/RS-422 data-communications interface solutions in a hybrid microcircuit. They integrate transceivers, optocouplers, and a transformer in a standard DIP package. A single +5V supply powers both sides. The MAX1480A/MAX1490A support data rates up to 2.5Mbps, while MAX1480B/C/MAX1490B support up to 250kbps with reduced-slew-rate drivers to minimize EMI and reflections. The MAX1480A/B/C are half-duplex, and MAX1490A/B are full-duplex. Drivers feature short-circuit current limiting and thermal shutdown protection. The receiver input has a fail-safe feature ensuring a known output when open circuit. The devices withstand 1600VRMS or 2000VRMS isolation and meet RS-485/RS-422 specifications.
