The BCM56512 is a single-chip solution with 24GbE ports that can operate at 10/100/1000 Mbps and two uplink ports that can operate in 10GbE switching mode or HiGig+ uplink mode. The integrated 10GbE switching ports are CX-4-compliant XAUI interfaces. The HiGig+ uplink interface connects to other StrataXGS devices in stacking systems or to switch fabric via backplane. The device incorporates advanced L3 switching features including IPv6 routing and transition services in hardware, ContentAware classification processors for policy-based routing and access control, and built-in security functions including BroadShield™. It integrates sophisticated metering, statistics, and traffic management features for QoS optimization, supports hardware-based sFlow implementation and flexible remote port-mirroring, and interfaces to a host CPU via a 32-bit PCI bus running at up to 66 MHz with bus mastering and advanced DMA support.
