The UC3178 full-bridge power amplifier includes a precision current sense amplifier that senses load current with a single resistor in series with the load. It is optimized to consume minimal supply current and operates in both 5V and 12V systems. The power output stages feature low saturation voltage and are protected with current limiting and thermal shutdown. When inhibited, the device draws less than 1.5mA total supply current. Auxiliary functions include load current sensing and rectification configurable with the over-current comparator for tight control of maximum commanded load current. The closed-loop transconductance can be switched between high and low range via a single logic input, providing a 4:1 gain change to extend servo loop dynamic range. Bandwidth variations from gain changes are controlled via a compensation adjust pin. The device is packaged in a power PLCC 'QP' package with a standard 28-pin outline and 7 thermal pins.
