APDS-9960 [Broadcom]

The APDS-9960 is an optical sensor module featuring Gesture detection, Proximity detection, Digital Ambient Light Sense (ALS), and Color Sense (RGBC). It integrates an IR LED and factory-calibrated LED driver in a slim package (3.94 × 2.36 × 1.35 mm). The device uses four directional photodiodes to detect reflected IR energy for gesture recognition, converting physical motion into digital data. Proximity sensing measures distance through IR reflection detection with ambient light rejection and offset compensation. Color and ALS detection provides 16-bit RGB and clear light intensity data using UV/IR blocking filters. Key features include programmable gain/integration time, 32-dataset FIFO, interrupt-driven I2C communication, and adjustable IR LED timing for power optimization.
