The MC33232 is a power factor controller IC designed for off-line power converter applications. It features an internal startup timer, one quadrant multiplier for near unity power factor, zero current detector for critical condition operation, transconductance error amplifier, quickstart circuit for enhanced startup, trimmed internal bandgap reference, current sensing comparator, and a totem pole output suited for driving power MOSFETs. It also includes protective features like an overvoltage comparator to prevent runaway output voltage and a protect circuit to eliminate thermal runaway. The device is available in dual-in-line and surface mount plastic packages.
