The SMAJ series is designed to protect sensitive equipment against electrostatic discharges according to IEC 61000-4-2 and MIL STD 883, method 3015, and electrical overstress according to IEC 61000-4-4 and 5. This device is more generally used against surges below 600 W (10/1000 μs).
The Planar technology makes it compatible with high-end circuits where low leakage current and high junction temperature are required to provide long term reliability and stability. SMAJ devices are packaged in SMA (SMA footprint in accordance with IPC 7531 standard).

1. Bidirectional TVS protection
SMAJ6.0CA can clamp transient voltages in both positive and negative directions, making it suitable for signal lines, interface lines, and circuits where voltage polarity may swing both ways.
2. 6V reverse standoff voltage
The device is designed for protecting low-voltage lines around the 6V range. During normal operation it remains off; during an overvoltage event, it conducts and diverts transient energy away from the protected circuit.
3. 400W peak pulse power capability
The 400W peak pulse power rating allows the diode to absorb short-duration surge energy and protect downstream components from transient damage.
4. 13.7V maximum clamping voltage
The listed clamping voltage is 13.7V, helping limit the voltage seen by the protected circuit during a surge event.
5. 6.7V minimum breakdown voltage
With a 6.7V minimum breakdown voltage, the diode begins avalanche conduction above the normal operating voltage range, providing transient suppression without conducting during normal 6V operation.
6. SMA / DO-214AC package
The SMA package provides a compact surface-mount footprint with stronger surge-handling capability than many very small ESD-only packages, making it useful for board-level power and interface protection.
7. Wide operating temperature range
The device supports a -55°C to +150°C operating temperature range, making it suitable for industrial, consumer, communication, and embedded electronics environments.
The technical device is essentially the same. SMAJ6.0CA refers to the base TVS diode part, while SMAJ6.0CA-TR is the tape-and-reel ordering version used for automated SMT production.
