The bqTiny-III (bq2403x) is a single-chip charge management IC that powers the system while independently charging the battery. It reduces charge and discharge cycles, allows proper charge termination, and enables the system to run with an absent or defective battery pack. It automatically selects between USB port and AC adapter as the power source, with programmable USB current limits (100mA/500mA). The device features dynamic power path management (DPPM) to maintain system voltage by reducing battery charging current when input power is limited. It charges in three phases: conditioning, constant current, and constant voltage, with termination based on minimum current. The IC includes programmable charge timer, automatic recharge, and sleep mode. It also provides short-circuit protection and thermal regulation.
