The bq24070/1 powers the system while independently charging the battery, reducing charge/discharge cycles and allowing proper charge termination. The system can run with absent or defective battery packs and turn on instantaneously from an external power source even with deeply discharged batteries. The charger delivers up to 1.5A continuous current for one-cell Li-ion or Li-polymer applications using a DC power supply, programmed from factory to deliver 1A charging current. It charges in three phases: conditioning, constant-current, and constant-voltage, with termination based on minimum current. Features include resistor-programmable charge timer backup safety, automatic charge restart on low battery voltage, sleep mode when supplies are removed, and dynamic power path management (DPPM).
